19 year old Brisbane based singer Kita Alexander dropped her debut single “My Own Way” last month.
The song is gripping from the start, with great use of the kick drum. Kita’s gentle yet vapoury voice enables her to stand out from other indie artists attempting to do the same, with her voice making the track almost addictive to listen to. Having recently moved to a surf town, Kita has taken much influence from her surroundings with the video clip for the song being homemade footage of what looks like her and her friends hanging out at the beach. Catchy hooks throughout the track allow for it to be enjoyed by all – even a mainstream audience.
Kita’s sound and style has been likened to artists such as Lykke Li, Haim and Fleetwood Mac. Listen to “My Own Way” here:
My only complaint of the track is that the lyrics could be a touch more extensive than what they are – I find them to be quite weak and repetitive at some points. In saying that, I think that Kita intended for this to be a relatively basic song which could explain the simplicity of the lyrical content.
With lyrics like “want to be the voice to your favourite song”, Kita has certainly made her intentions clear. Keep an eye out for Kita - and expect big things from her.
Bonus points for her flawless Disney Princess hair!
