How to make Barista Coffee at Home

How to make Barista Coffee at Home

I love your coffee when I drink it at your café- but when I bring it home and try to make it myself it just doesn’t taste the same!

Does this sound familiar?

You are not alone!

Here are a few ways that you can improve the coffee that you make from home.

Start with delicious, locally roasted specialty coffee.

Fresh is best

Keep an eye on your roast date. Coffee is at its best 5 to 28 days past roasting. That is when you will experience the ultimate deliciousness!

Storing Coffee

Whilst Coffee is shelf stable it does not like to be exposed to light, heat, air, or moisture. As such, it is important to keep your Coffee sealed in a bag or an airtight container. Keep the bag or container in a cool dark place like a pantry or kitchen cupboard. Do not be tempted to store your coffee in a fridge or freezer, it will not extend the shelf life. In fact, exposure to light and moisture (in fridges and freezers) will affect the quality of your coffee.

Buy Whole Beans and Grind as needed

Investing in a grinder is one of the best ways that you can improve your Coffee quality at home. Coffee is always the most amazing when it is ground right before brewing. Do I need to spend a fortune and buy the top of the line model? Also, I really don’t have a lot of bench space in my kitchen. No- you absolutely do not have to. Come and have a chat with us in our concept store and we can run you through the range we stock- starting at our very affordable hand grinders.

Buy a set of Coffee scales

Coffee ratios and Recipes are important to follow. Investing in a set of Coffee Scales will help you to keep to the specified recipe which will in turn, give you the best tasting espresso you can get.

Clean your equipment

This might seem obvious, but there are particular products you should be using to clean your Coffee Machine. A clean machine makes great tasting coffee. Any build up will cause your coffee to taste bitter or burnt with a nasty acrid aftertaste so be sure to backflush and clean your coffee machine regularly. WA water is very hard and as such descaling is essential to prolong the life of your machine. We recommend every couple of months. As well as prolonging the life of your machine, descaling will ensure you achieve maximum cup volume, avoid limescale damage and deliver the best possible taste. We have descaler and espresso machine cleaner available to order online or in our concept store. If you are uncertain what to use or have any questions, feel free to pop in and have a chat with us.

Hopefully these tips have come in handy. Our friendly team are always here to answer any questions you may have about your home gear.

Until next time- keep sipping delicious brews!
